Photos of Maiko during Hanatouro
During special event of "Hanatouro" in March, Maiko from various areas procession riding in Jinrikishas, or rickshas, from Gion-corner to Kodai-ji koen park through Shijo-dori street, Maruyama koen park and Nene-no-michi road. Then two of them perform a couple of dances on a temporary stage.
Maiko is apprentice Geiko (Kyoto dialect for Geisha). They are somewhere between 16 to 20 years old and perform dances to entertain wealthy customers in Ochaya in the evening, while receiving rigorous training to become Geiko during the day.
