My Kind of Kyoto, a website on Japan's most important historic city.
Nio-mon gate of Kiyomizu-dera temple. This two storied ro-mon gate was rebuilt in late 15th century and is an important cultural property. Refurbishment of the gate was completed in 2003. In the green lattices on the both sides of the gate are 365 centimeter high figures of Nio who guard the Buddhist deities and buildings in the precinct. The blossom on the left is "ume", or Japanese apricot.
